Vietnamese Peacekeepers Deployed to South Sudan and Abyei

Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence has appointed three officers to participate in the United Nations peacekeeping missions UNMISS and UNISFA. The officers include Lieutenant Colonel Vũ Thị Kim Oanh, who will serve as a quartermaster at UNISFA, and Lieutenant Colonel Nguyễn Văn Thu, appointed as a senior staff officer for training at the same mission. Additionally, Captain Chu Tuấn Linh is designated as a military observer at UNMISS. They will replace their Vietnamese predecessors currently serving in these capacities. Major General Phạm Mạnh Thắng, the Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, emphasized that the newly assigned officers have undergone sufficient methodological training and have fulfilled the qualifications set by the United Nations as well as the Vietnamese Ministry of Defence. Notably, Lieutenant Colonel Oanh has previous experience as a military observer at UNMISS, while Lieutenant Colonel Thu has served as a logistics staff officer at UNISFA. Deputy Defence Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Hoàng Xuân Chiến, congratulated the officers on their appointments.
