Turkey Declares Imminent Eradication of Kurdish YPG Militia in Syria

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan declared that the removal of the Kurdish YPG militia from Syria is imminent, stressing Turkey’s rejection of policies that allow the YPG to maintain a presence. He stated Turkey’s readiness to thwart any regional plots during a press conference with Jordan.

On Monday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the imminent eradication of the Kurdish YPG militia in Syria would not be compromised by any policy that enables their continued presence in the region. During a joint press conference with his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, Fidan emphasized Turkey’s capability to thwart any plots affecting regional stability, asserting Turkey’s proactive stance in the matter.

The YPG (People’s Protection Units) is a Kurdish militia in Syria that has been at the forefront in fighting against ISIS. However, Turkey views the YPG as an extension of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party), which has been classified as a terrorist organization by Ankara, the EU, and the US. As Turkey continues to engage in military operations to eliminate the YPG presence near its borders, Fidan’s remarks underscore Ankara’s determination to secure its national interests amidst ongoing conflicts in the region.

The statements made by Hakan Fidan illustrate Turkey’s unwavering resolve to eliminate the Kurdish YPG militia from Syria, highlighting its strategic priorities and regional security interests. This assertion reaffirms Turkey’s position against any policies that might perpetuate the YPG’s influence within its proximity, indicating potential future military actions.
