Landing at Abu Dhabi International Airport at 9 PM local time, he was welcomed by key officials, including UAE Minister of State Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Malaysian Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, and Ambassador Tengku Datuk Sirajuzzaman Tengku Mohamed Ariffin.

This visit comes at the invitation of UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also the Ruler of Dubai. Accompanying the Prime Minister are notable ministers such as Saifuddin Nasution, Minister of International Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, and Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir. On Tuesday, PM Anwar is slated to attend the ADSW opening ceremony as well as the Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards alongside various heads of state from around the world.

ADSW 2025, which occurs from January 12 to 18 under the theme “The Nexus of Next. Supercharging Sustainable Progress,” is renowned as a pivotal event in global sustainability initiatives. The Prime Minister will participate in a plenary session focused on “ASEAN’s Interconnected Future: Linking Energy, Trade & Prosperity.” Furthermore, he is poised to engage with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, as well as Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to strengthen cooperation and bilateral ties.

Additionally, the Prime Minister is expected to witness the signing of the Malaysia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), a significant milestone aimed at enhancing trading prospects and mutual economic growth. Prime Minister Anwar’s present visit marks his second to the UAE following his appointment, with the previous visit occurring in October 2023. Malaysia’s trade with the UAE from January to November 2024 reached a value of RM39.53 billion (US$8.61 billion), underscoring the economic importance of this partnership.
