The Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Iraq in Libya, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, announced on Monday the successful return of two Iraqis who previously entered Libya for the purpose of illegal immigration. This initiative was part of the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to facilitate the voluntary return of its citizens. In total, the embassy has successfully repatriated 39 Iraqi citizens, 25 in 2024 and 12 in the previous week of 2025, who sought to migrate illegally to Europe through Libya.

Al-Sahaf emphasized that the embassy coordinated closely with Libyan authorities to ensure the safe deportation of the two individuals. He noted that efforts included protecting migrants from the dangers associated with human trafficking networks. Furthermore, the embassy provided shelter, food, and medical care for those affected, showcasing its commitment to the welfare of its citizens.

The ministry’s involvement included high-level coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Baghdad and collaboration with the Foreign Relations Committee of the Iraqi Parliament.
