Pakistan Condemns Netanyahu’s Proposal for Palestinian State in Saudi Arabia

Pakistan has condemned Netanyahu’s remark that a Palestinian state could be established in Saudi Arabia. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi sovereignty during a call with his Saudi counterpart. They agreed on the need for an emergency meeting of OIC foreign ministers regarding Gaza. Dar stressed the Palestinian right to sovereignty based on pre-1967 borders and referred to displacing Palestinians as a violation of international law.

On Monday, Pakistan condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s provocative suggestion that a Palestinian state be established in Saudi Arabia. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar communicated with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, expressing disapproval of Netanyahu’s remarks and reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, alongside its support for the Palestinian cause.

During the conversation, the Saudi foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s consistent backing for the Kingdom’s sanctity. Both ministers also agreed on the need to convene an urgent extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Countries foreign ministers to address the ongoing situation in Gaza.

In a previous statement, Dar expressed Pakistan’s firm belief that the Palestinian people possess an inalienable right to establish an independent state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital. He emphasized that any proposals intended to displace the Palestinian people from their homeland are unacceptable and violate international law.

Netanyahu had previously remarked, “The Saudis can create a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia; they have a lot of land over there.” This comment, alongside a prior controversial proposal by former US President Donald Trump concerning Palestinian resettlement, has drawn widespread condemnation from Palestinians and various nations globally. The situation has escalated, with significant casualties reported in Gaza since the conflict renewed on October 7, 2023.

In summary, Pakistan has strongly condemned Netanyahu’s remarks regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia, reiterating its commitment to Palestinian rights and Saudi sovereignty. This statement follows increasing violence in Gaza, and the calls for an urgent meeting among Islamic countries reflect the rising concern for the situation and support for the Palestinian cause. The international community continues to express outrage against such proposals, emphasizing the need for respecting established rights and international laws.
