Qatari and Libyan Premiers Discuss Cooperation and Regional Issues

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional issues, particularly the situations in Gaza and Syria. Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar’s support for Libya’s unity and political process amid efforts for upcoming elections to resolve conflicts stemming from rival governments.

On Tuesday, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani engaged in discussions with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh in Doha. Their talks centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation and addressing regional issues, particularly the ongoing situations in Gaza and Syria, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

Sheikh Mohammed affirmed Qatar’s unwavering commitment to Libya’s unity and the aspirations of its people for stability and development. He emphasized Qatar’s comprehensive support for the political process in Libya, relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, and peaceful solutions that uphold Libya’s sovereignty.

Currently, efforts by the UN and local organizations aim to facilitate elections in Libya to resolve the ongoing crisis fueled by two rival governments. The Government of National Unity, led by Mr. Dbeibeh in Tripoli and recognized internationally, contrasts sharply with the eastern-based administration appointed by the House of Representatives and headed by Osama Hamad.

The Libyan population is hopeful that the long-anticipated elections will mark the conclusion of political discord and armed conflict, facilitating a transition away from the instability that has persisted since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.

In conclusion, the discussions between Qatari and Libyan officials reflect a strong commitment to fostering bilateral relations and addressing critical regional issues. Qatar’s support for Libya’s sovereignty and political processes underscores the importance of diplomatic efforts in resolving the ongoing crisis and restoring stability in Libya.
