Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa met to discuss Gaza recovery plans ahead of the Arab Summit on March 4. On Saturday, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa convened in Cairo to discuss the recovery and reconstruction plans for Gaza. This plan will be presented at the Arab Summit scheduled for March 4. The meeting was attended by key officials from both countries, including Egyptian Foreign Affairs Minister Badr Abdelatty and Palestinian Minister of Planning Wael Zakout.
Prime Minister Madbouly reiterated Egypt’s commitment to the rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the borders established on June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He emphasized the Egyptian government’s role in facilitating the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip as part of its strategy under President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
During the talks, Madbouly expressed Egypt’s dedication to helping the Palestinian cause through full implementation of the ceasefire and support for Gaza’s reconstruction. In turn, Prime Minister Mustafa thanked Egypt for its ongoing support and praised President Al-Sisi’s initiatives aimed at advancing Palestinian rights and reconstruction efforts.
According to Mohamed El-Homsani, the official spokesperson for the Cabinet, the focus of the meeting was on coordination between Egyptian and Palestinian teams to finalize the reconstruction plan ahead of the Arab Summit. Discussions also included engaging international humanitarian organizations to aid the recovery and rebuilding process.
In previous comments, Madbouly noted the potential for Egyptian companies to expedite the rebuilding of Gaza, potentially completing it within three years. He expressed confidence in the capabilities of Egyptian firms to deliver high-quality reconstruction projects that stand to restore and improve conditions in Gaza.
Egyptian officials outlined a three-phase reconstruction strategy spanning five years, including the establishment of three designated safe zones to accommodate Palestinians temporarily during the initial recovery period of six months, which will feature mobile homes and humanitarian provisions. The Egyptian foreign ministry also indicated that the emergency Arab Summit, initially set for February 27, was rescheduled after consultations with Arab nations and coordination with Bahrain, the current chair of the Arab League Council.
