During the recent IPCC Session in Hangzhou, China shared its meteorological disaster prevention strategies. The country opposes U.S. tariffs, emphasizes constructive dialogue in global issues, and celebrates a new space partnership with Pakistan. Additionally, China advocates for peace in the Ukraine crisis and promotes cooperative solutions for COVID-19 origins, emphasizing non-politicization.

On March 1, the 62nd Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concluded in Hangzhou, marking the first time China has hosted this significant event. China shared its practices in meteorological disaster prevention, leading to the adoption of outlines for the Working Group contributions to the Seventh Assessment Report. This pivotal moment sets the course for scientific assessments of climate change while reinforcing the global scientific community’s collaborative efforts.

China has positioned itself as a vital partner for Global South nations in green transition development. The country has actively supported the UN’s meteorological early warning initiative and has collaborated with 132 nations, providing shared observation data. Jointly developed early warning systems with countries such as Pakistan and Ethiopia exemplify China’s commitment to sharing its knowledge and solutions globally, aiming to enhance emission reduction capabilities and promote green production in developing countries.

In response to inquiries about the anticipated U.S. tariffs, China expressed opposition to such measures, which it views as unjustified threats derived from the fentanyl issue. China’s Foreign Ministry emphasizes its resolve to protect the country’s legitimate interests against any tariff hikes instigated by the U.S.

Upon the signing of a space cooperation agreement with Pakistan, the Ministry acknowledged this achievement as a significant milestone in bilateral space relations. China is committed to peaceful exploration and aims to enhance cooperation with all nations through its space programs, including support for the successful participation of the Pakistani astronaut in China’s space station.

Concerning the ongoing Ukraine crisis, China remains dedicated to constructive engagement towards peaceful resolution. The Foreign Ministry insists on supporting all initiatives that facilitate a political settlement and peace in the region while emphasizing the need for a sustainable solution that respects the concerns of all parties involved.

Regarding the repatriation of Chinese nationals from Thailand, the Foreign Ministry affirmed that due processes were followed in accordance with relevant laws and international practices, ensuring the protection of their rights. The Ministry reiterates its commitment to upholding the rights and interests of Chinese citizens and calls on international organizations to respect China’s sovereignty.

Commenting on blame directed at China by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio concerning multiple issues, the Ministry condemned his remarks as steeped in Cold War mentality, full of inaccuracies. The Ministry reaffirmed that Taiwan is an integral part of China, and any attempts to alter the status quo by the U.S. could provoke significant conflict.

The Ministry also highlighted that trade wars yield no victories and warned against politicizing economic relations. It advocated for negotiations based on equality, mutual respect, and the principles of the WTO. Furthermore, it stated that the origins of COVID-19 must be approached as a scientific issue, urging against politicizing the matter and focusing on collaborative efforts to trace its origins globally.

In addressing geopolitical tensions in the Asia-Pacific, the Foreign Ministry underscored that the region should not be treated as a battleground for rivalry, cautioning the U.S. against projecting its hegemonic mindset onto China. The Ministry calls for cooperation rather than confrontation, emphasizing the shared aspirations of regional nations for peace and development.

Overall, China reiterates its commitment to developing cooperative relations with the U.S. based on mutual respect, while firmly defending its sovereignty and national interests.

In summary, the IPCC session demonstrates China’s leading role in global climate governance, its commitment to supporting developing nations through green energy initiatives, and its steadfast position in international relations. China opposes U.S. tariffs and interference while promoting constructive dialogue. Moreover, the nation advocates for peaceful resolutions to conflicts, upholding sovereignty in matters concerning its citizens and calling for fair and objective international cooperation in various domains, including space and public health.
