Rigathi Gachagua declared the GEMA communities will be crucial in shaping the next Kenyan government, with confidence in their unity and voter support despite opposition from Raila Odinga. He criticized President Ruto’s dependency on Odinga and highlighted the importance of Gen Z voters in the upcoming elections. Gachagua is actively seeking to form a coalition with other political leaders to enhance his political strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has proclaimed that the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba (GEMA) communities will play a pivotal role in establishing Kenya’s next government, irrespective of the support from opposition leader Raila Odinga. During a church service in Machakos, Gachagua expressed his confidence in GEMA’s capacity to influence the country’s political landscape significantly.
He stated, “GEMA ndiyo dawa ya Kenya. GEMA itaunda the next government,” emphasizing that their unity is essential for political success. Gachagua reassured his supporters about their strength, indicating that they have adequate numbers to secure victory in the 2027 elections, saying, “We have looked at the numbers and they are good, with or without him (Raila).”
Additionally, Gachagua criticized President William Ruto, asserting that Ruto’s political survival heavily relies on Odinga’s influence. He predicted a challenging re-election campaign for Ruto in 2027, remarking, “Life support machine ya Ruto ni Raila saa hii. Akizima, amekwisha,” implying Ruto’s political downfall would occur without Odinga’s support.
Gachagua further asserted that a united GEMA community could dominate Kenya’s leadership for the next century, stating, “If we unite as GEMA, we shall be in power for the next 100 years.” His comments occurred amid speculation regarding his political future and newfound relations with opposition figures, hinting at a willingness to collaborate with Odinga.
During an interview with local radio stations, he expressed uncertainty about Odinga’s intentions and remarked, “It is his choice whether he wants to be with Ruto and water down his political legacy or join the side of liberating this country.” Gachagua contended that the Gen Z voters, who were instrumental in the 2022 elections, would not support Ruto in 2027, asserting, “Kenyans have already decided Ruto must go home and want a new government that serves them.”
In his efforts to establish a robust opposition coalition, Gachagua has engaged with key political figures, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua of the People’s Liberation Party, indicating a significant political realignment in anticipation of the 2027 elections.
Rigathi Gachagua asserts that the GEMA communities will significantly influence the formation of Kenya’s next government. He expresses confidence in their unity and readiness to lead, while criticizing President Ruto’s reliance on Odinga. Gachagua also emphasizes the importance of Gen Z voters for the upcoming elections and indicates ongoing efforts to form a coalition among various political leaders, pointing towards a shift in Kenya’s political landscape.
