Ghana Offers Cheapest Hajj Fare in Sub-Region, Says Collins Dauda

Ghana’s Hajj fare is the lowest in the sub-region at $4100 (GHS62,000), significantly cheaper than neighboring countries. Chairman Collins Dauda confirmed no plans to reduce this fare and established March 13 as the payment deadline. The government will airlift only 5000 pilgrims to ensure a smooth pilgrimage process.

In a recent announcement, Chairman of the Hajj Board, Collins Dauda, highlighted that Ghana offers the most affordable fare for the Hajj pilgrimage compared to its neighboring nations. The current fare stands at $4100, which is approximately GHS62,000, placing it below the fares charged by countries such as Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cote D’Ivoire, and Nigeria, all of which exceed $5000.

Mr. Dauda further clarified that the government has no plans to reduce the Hajj fare beyond the established GHS62,000. He stated, “Not that I know of, the fare we have announced is GHS62,000. But you must know that in the sub-region, Ghana’s fare is the cheapest.” He emphasized that while adjustments may be possible under specific circumstances, no such measures are currently under consideration.

Additionally, the government has set a payment deadline for the Hajj fares on March 13, which is crucial for ensuring orderly transportation for the pilgrimage. Mr. Dauda stated that only 5000 pilgrims will be airlifted, advising agents to be attentive to this limitation and not accept payments from individuals who may not secure a place on this quota.

“To ensure smooth and seamless pilgrimage, we are only airlifting 5000 pilgrims, hence agents have been cautioned to take note,” he remarked. The intended measure aims to prevent any potential issues arising from overbooking and ensure that all pilgrims have a confirmed capability to participate in the Hajj.

In conclusion, Ghana is leading the sub-region with the most economical Hajj fare at GHS62,000. The government is focused on a limited capacity of 5000 pilgrims for this year and has communicated a clear deadline for fare payments. Chairman Collins Dauda reassured that while the fare remains fixed for now, the priority will be maintaining an orderly process for pilgrims.
