Kigali accused Germany’s administration of neglecting to hold the DRC accountable for repeated violations, which it contends embolden the country’s aggressive approach and prolong the conflict. The statement highlighted, “Germany contradicts its own claims of supporting the African-led process to resolve the conflict in eastern DRC by letting the DRC off the hook for numerous violations.”
Moreover, Rwanda pointed out Germany’s failure to acknowledge the threat posed by the DRC-backed FDLR, a militia tied to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The statement emphasized that Germany should not resort to biased measures given its historical responsibility in the region’s issues.
Rwanda also criticized Canada for a recent statement blaming Kigali for violence in eastern DRC and summoned its High Commissioner for consultation. The Rwandan government accused Canada of misattributing atrocities in the region to Rwanda while ignoring the actions of the DRC army and allied militias. “Canada is voluntarily accusing Rwanda of atrocities committed in eastern DRC,” stated the ministry.
