The Consolidated Election scheduled for April 1st is approaching, yet early voting participation in Danville and Vermilion County remains low. According to Carrie Wilson, Supervisor of Elections, though initial turnout is low, she anticipates increased participation in certain competitions throughout the county.
Wilson highlighted key races, such as the mayoral election in Georgetown and contests within Danville School District and the Village of Rossville, which may encourage voters to engage. She encourages citizens to reach out for sample ballots or additional information if needed. Currently, only 53 individuals have cast early votes, and 51 mail-in ballot requests have been made, representing a typical turnout of about 14 percent among registered voters.
Sandra Delhaye, Executive Director of the Danville Election Commission, emphasized the ongoing opportunity for voter registration. Voters may register at polling locations on Election Day itself, a change from prior years when the Election Commission office was not open for this purpose.
Under the current Grace Period voting, registration and voting occur concurrently. For those interested, the County Clerk’s office and the Danville Election Commission Office are operational Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Joseph G. Cannon Building, located at 201 North Vermilion Street in Danville.
