The Federal Government of Nigeria confirms the continued use of Remitta as its approved payment gateway, with plans to integrate it into the new Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System (TMRAS). This system seeks to improve revenue collection by incorporating other CBN-licensed payment service providers while enhancing government financial management.
The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has affirmed that the Federal Government of Nigeria will continue utilizing Remitta as a validated payment gateway, as sanctioned by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, made this statement on Wednesday, specifying that Remitta will be integrated into the Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System (TMRAS), which will include other eligible Payment Solution Service Providers (PSSPs) for enhanced government revenue collection.
Mokwa noted that TMRAS officially commenced operations on March 4, following directives from President Bola Tinubu and Finance Minister Wale Edun. The system is aimed at ensuring better treasury revenue assurance and improved financial performance across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Federal Government Owned Enterprises (FGOEs).
The purpose of TMRAS is to organize and manage the revenue collection and payment processes of the Federal Government. It will introduce liberalization in these processes, improve revenue collection, and facilitate timely analysis of transaction information. Mokwa emphasized that while Remitta is a secure payment channel, other platforms will also be permitted to join the system as CBN-licensed providers.
Although Remitta is the sole approved payment gateway for Federal Government revenue collection for at least two months, the government intends to expand the payment infrastructure to incorporate additional CBN-licensed PSSPs. Mokwa encourages all revenue payers and the public to continue using Remitta for payments, advising them to visit www.fgntreasury.gov.ng for federal payment options.
In summary, the Federal Government of Nigeria affirms that Remitta remains a key payment gateway despite the integration into the new Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System. This system aims to enhance revenue collection processes and allows for the inclusion of additional secure payment platforms, thereby fostering greater efficiency and transparency in government financial operations.
