North Korea has sent an additional 3,500 troops to Russia ahead of their deployment in Ukraine, following earlier deployments. Reports indicate that training is ongoing in Russia’s Far East, with noted casualties among North Korean soldiers.
Recent reports indicate that North Korea has dispatched an additional 3,500 troops to Russia in preparation for deployment to Ukraine. This notification was made by a South Korean lawmaker and follows the earlier send-off of a second batch of 1,500 soldiers, which aimed to replace those lost from the initial deployment of 11,000 troops sent in October to the Russian city of Kursk.
According to Yu, the South Korean lawmaker, currently, approximately 3,500 North Korean soldiers are engaged in field adaptation training at five different locations within Russia’s Far East, suggesting a potential for a third wave of troop deployment in the future. Yu reported this information post a briefing from Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s defense intelligence, received during his trip to Ukraine between February 23 and 26.
As of now, it has been reported that around 400 North Korean troops have lost their lives in combat, with 3,600 soldiers injured so far. Notably, among those wounded, 300 have rejoined the front lines following their recovery, as stated by Yu.
In summary, North Korea has sent 3,500 troops to Russia, contributing to a total of 11,000 deployed to support military efforts in Ukraine. This move follows previous troop deployments, with reports confirming casualties and recoveries among the North Korean forces. Increased military involvement signals a potential escalation in North Korean engagement in the conflict.
