Orrington Couple Prepares for 100-Mile Ultra Marathon in Nepal

Orrington couple Jason and Meaghan Geroux are set to compete in a 100-mile ultra marathon in Nepal. They have previously run marathons around the world and have developed a passion for ultra marathons. They train rigorously year-round, emphasizing mental strength alongside physical fitness.

Jason and Meaghan Geroux, a couple from Orrington, are preparing to participate in a 100-mile ultra marathon in Mustang, Nepal. Renowned for their world travels, the couple has previously raced marathons in countries such as Iceland and Ireland. Their current focus on ultra marathons encompasses distances exceeding 26.2 miles, reflecting their dedication and passion for the sport.

“We both just fell in love with like putting up these big numbers and were like ‘well that’s kinda cool, well where’s the ceiling, how far can we push it?'” stated Jason Geroux. The couple rigorously trains year-round, braving all weather conditions to maintain peak fitness levels and readiness for competition.

Meaghan Geroux emphasized the personal challenge of ultra marathons: “Pushing yourself further and longer is something you don’t think you can do until you do it.” In the coming weeks, Jason and Meaghan will compete against 50 athletes globally in a 103-mile race through the majestic Himalayas.

Their connection to the Himalayas dates back to 2019, when they trekked to Everest Base Camp. “We fell in love with the Himalayas in 2019 as we made our way to Everest Base camp […] and said ‘maybe someday we’ll be that cool'” Jason recalled, noting their enthusiasm to finally pursue that dream.

Over an eight-day period, the couple will run a variety of distances, often sacrificing sleep to meet their goals. “Getting through the night-time hour is a really mental challenge, because you want to sleep, so I think that’s the biggest challenge with ultras,” Meaghan explained, highlighting the mental fortitude required for such endeavors.

Operating without sponsorship, the Gerouxs partake in ultra marathons during their spare time, fueled by a mutual passion for fitness. Meaghan works as a dietician, while Jason is engaged in epoxy flooring and painting contracting. “I just want to try to rub off on the people that I’m around, to say ‘hey you can do this too, I’m just a regular guy,'” Jason expressed, aiming to inspire others.

Ultimately, they believe that through their journey, they can demonstrate that anyone can undertake such challenges. “It’s going to be fun, it’s going to be challenging, but I think it’s going to be a great accomplishment when we’re done and we’ll do it together,” stated Meaghan, underscoring the significance of their partnership in this adventure.

In conclusion, Jason and Meaghan Geroux are embarking on an ambitious 100-mile ultra marathon in Nepal, showcasing their commitment to fitness and adventure. Their journey encapsulates passion, resilience, and the belief that ordinary individuals can pursue extraordinary challenges. Training together and sharing their experiences, they aim to inspire others to exceed their limits and achieve their dreams in ultra marathons and beyond.
