Tayali Advocates for Finalization of 16th Protocol for TAZARA Revitalization

Transport Minister Frank Tayali has called for the finalization of the 16th protocol to enhance the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA) through technical cooperation. He applauded the progress made by Tanzania and Zambia, stressing the need for this new agreement. Chinese Ambassador’s Economic Counsellor Jin Jun confirmed China’s readiness to renegotiate the protocols based on feedback.

Frank Tayali, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, has urged the expeditious conclusion of the 16th protocol aimed at enhancing technical cooperation for the revitalization of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA). During discussions with Mr. Jin Jun, Economic Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy, Tayali recognized the significant strides made by both Tanzanian and Zambian governments in restoring TAZARA’s operations.

Tayali emphasized the necessity of formalizing the 16th protocol between Zambia and the People’s Republic of China, as TAZARA continues to operate under the existing 15th protocol. He underlined the urgency of moving forward with this new agreement.

Furthermore, Counsellor Jin Jun expressed the Chinese government’s openness to receiving input regarding the 16th protocol on technical cooperation. He conveyed that the agreements are subject to renegotiation and appreciated the feedback received from Tanzania the previous year, indicating a collaborative approach to revitalizing the railway.
