UN Nuclear Chief Asserts Ineffectiveness of Sanctions Against Iran

The United Nations’ top nuclear official, Rafael Grossi, claims US-led sanctions against Iran’s nuclear program are ineffective. Iranian officials, including nuclear chief Mohammad Eslami, assert their determination to overcome these sanctions, maintaining that their nuclear activities are for civilian purposes. Despite international pressure and accusations, Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA has reportedly increased.

Rafael Grossi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has stated that the sanctions imposed by the United States against Iran’s nuclear energy program have proven ineffective. In an interview with Bloomberg, Grossi remarked, “Sanctions aren’t working,” noting that Iran has successfully circumvented these restrictions, with its nuclear program expanding significantly since 2018.

Similarly, Iran’s nuclear chief, Mohammad Eslami, dismissed the effect of the sanctions, stating that the nation’s adversaries lack the capability to impede its progress. He emphasized that economic pressure and the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists would not deter the country from achieving its objectives, declaring, “In order to achieve our goals, we don’t care about the enemies’ sanctions and pressure.”

Despite the adversities faced, Iran progresses in enhancing its nuclear capabilities for civilian purposes, including sectors such as medicine and agriculture. Iranian officials consistently assert that these nuclear endeavors are solely peaceful. However, the IAEA’s Board of Governors has passed several resolutions, driven by the US and its European allies, which accuse Iran of failing to comply with nuclear regulations.

These resolutions contradict the cooperation status between Iran and the IAEA, which has reportedly improved in both quality and frequency over recent years. Iran has urged the IAEA to uphold its professional standards and avoid politicizing its operational decisions.

In summary, sanctions against Iran’s nuclear program, as highlighted by IAEA’s Rafael Grossi and Iranian officials, appear to be ineffective, with Iran asserting its independence in pursuing its objectives. The nation remains committed to advancing its nuclear program for civilian use despite external pressures and continues to call for professional integrity within the IAEA’s decision-making processes.
