Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei Rejects U.S. Negotiation Under Bully Pressure

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated that Iran will not negotiate with the U.S. under pressure, claiming Washington’s offers aim to impose expectations rather than resolve issues. He criticized the U.S. for seeking dominance through negotiations. Despite Trump’s openness to discussions, he re-initiated a campaign to isolate Iran, complicating diplomatic efforts as Iran accelerates its nuclear activities under the pretext of peaceful intentions.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei of Iran stated that Tehran will not engage in negotiations with the United States under what he perceives as ‘bully’ pressure. During a meeting with senior officials, he asserted that Washington’s intention behind proposing negotiations is to impose its own expectations rather than resolve issues, as reported by Iranian state media.

Khamenei emphasized that the demands from certain ‘bully’ governments are not aimed at solving conflicts but at establishing their dominance and imposing conditions. He clarified that for these governments, discussions are merely a strategy to formulate new expectations that extend beyond Iran’s nuclear issue. He firmly declared that Iran will not accept these demands.

While former President Trump has expressed a willingness to negotiate with Iran, he has simultaneously reinstated a ‘maximum pressure’ campaign designed to isolate Iran economically and reduce its oil exports to zero. This strategy follows Trump’s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018, which had placed significant limits on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.

After withdrawing from the agreement, the United States re-imposed sanctions, prompting Iran to breach and exceed the agreed nuclear limits. The head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog, Rafael Grossi, has indicated that time is running short for diplomatic efforts to impose new restrictions on Iran’s nuclear activities, especially as Tehran intensifies its uranium enrichment to near weapons-grade levels.

Iran maintains that its nuclear program is entirely for peaceful purposes, emphasizing its commitment to non-proliferation while facing significant international scrutiny and pressure.

In summary, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s remarks highlight Iran’s refusal to negotiate with the United States under perceived coercive conditions, asserting that the U.S. intent is to impose its expectations. Despite Trump’s willingness to negotiate, his ‘maximum pressure’ campaign continues to strain relations. The urgency for diplomatic solutions is underscored by the ongoing escalation of Iran’s uranium enrichment, while Iran insists its nuclear activities are peaceful.
