Known for its rich mineral resources, the DRC is the leading global producer of cobalt, which constitutes over 70% of the cobalt supply utilized in various industrial applications, notably electric vehicle batteries. In addition to cobalt, the DRC possesses substantial deposits of gold, copper, tin, lithium, and tantalum. However, many mineral-rich regions in eastern DRC are currently controlled by the M23 rebel group, alleged to be supported by Rwanda and involved in smuggling the DRC’s minerals across the border.
