Zimbabwe Seeks BRICS Membership for Economic Advancement

Zimbabwe is seeking membership in BRICS to boost its economy, according to Minister Amon Murwira. This move aims to create opportunities for socioeconomic growth and is aligned with the nation’s constitutional mandate. Murwira suggests learning from countries like Russia to address local challenges through international cooperation.

Zimbabwe is actively pursuing membership in the BRICS alliance, as stated by Amon Murwira, the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, following his recent visit to Moscow. The Zimbabwean government is eager to engage with BRICS in order to explore avenues for economic recovery and growth, as reported by News.Az, referencing TASS.

Murwira emphasized that the nation’s constitution mandates a dual commitment: to Pan-African collaboration and to aligning with dynamic groups that support socioeconomic development and global peace. He remarked, “Peace is fostered through economic development,” highlighting the intrinsic link between economic progress and stability.

Additionally, he expressed that Zimbabwe aims to adopt local solutions to its challenges by learning from partnerships with countries such as Russia. He stated, “What we have done with the Russian Federation and many other countries for that matter is to coalesce around the idea of growing capabilities. As a ministry, our job is to join the domestic environment in Zimbabwe with the foreign environment in terms of cooperation in education, technical fields, science and technology. This is the only way we can boost the production that we are talking about. And with this production, that is when trade can take place,” underscoring the importance of international collaboration to enhance local production and trade.

Zimbabwe’s endeavor to join BRICS represents a strategic effort to enhance its economic growth through international cooperation. Minister Amon Murwira’s statements reflect the country’s commitment to leveraging global partnerships while addressing local challenges through technological and educational advancements. The alignment with BRICS could provide Zimbabwe with the necessary platform to foster development and promote peace.
