The 86th Kenya Open Fullbore Championship concluded with exceptional performances by the personnel of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) at the Laikipia KDF Range in Nanyuki. The event featured 64 elite shooters from various organizations, including the National Police Service and the British Royal Air Force, aiming to enhance marksmanship skills through challenges at distances of 300 to 900 meters.
Competitors vied for distinguished titles such as the McCallum Cup and the Standard Newspaper Cup. Participants were tasked with executing critical shooting procedures under stringent time constraints, including assessing wind conditions within 45 seconds to achieve optimal accuracy. The comprehensive shooting challenges tested the skill and precision of the entrants.
Warrant Officer Class 2 Wilberforce Kerema notably excelled, winning the Standard Newspaper Cup, Stuart Wortley Cup, and Short Range Aggregate Cup in Class XI, while also securing a bronze in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup. Other notable performers included Senior Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo, who claimed a silver medal in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup, and several other KDF personnel who showcased remarkable talent.
Significantly, Staff Sergeants Joyce Chebii and Brenda Ojiambo were honored as the best female shooters in the tournament. In a remarkable achievement, ten KDF personnel have been selected to represent Kenya at the Bisley competition in the United Kingdom later this year, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to excellence in marksmanship.
