Pakistan and Egypt Enhance Bilateral Relations at OIC Conference

Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to strengthen their political, defense, cultural, and economic ties during a meeting at the OIC conference on Palestine. Both nations have indicated their commitment to addressing humanitarian issues and supporting a viable Palestinian state, while also enhancing bilateral cooperation through various initiatives.

On Saturday, during a special Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conference on Palestine, Pakistan and Egypt committed to enhancing their political, defense, cultural, and economic relations. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to reinforce their collaboration. Recent years have seen a strengthening of bilateral relations, marked by annual consultations that focus on trade, investment, and cultural exchanges.

In November 2022, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took part in the COP27 climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, where he sought climate compensation and debt relief due to the catastrophic floods experienced in Pakistan. In their discussions, both ministers expressed satisfaction with the current trajectory of Pakistan and Egypt’s relations.

The officials commended the longstanding relationship between the two nations, which is based on shared beliefs, cultural connections, and values. They agreed to pursue further enhancement of political, defense, cultural, and economic ties while also fostering greater people-to-people interactions.

Additionally, they addressed regional issues of mutual concern, expressing alarm over the ongoing violence in the West Bank and the situation in Gaza. Deputy Prime Minister Dar underscored Egypt’s vital role in providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinians and its efforts to broker a temporary ceasefire.

Both representatives confirmed their shared stance against the forced displacement of Palestinians, advocating for a sustainable resolution that includes the establishment of a viable Palestinian state within pre-June 1967 borders, designating Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. Dar also extended an invitation for Abdelatty to visit Pakistan.

Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister Dar conferred with OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha on challenges confronting the Muslim world, highlighting the OIC’s role in fostering unity. He also met with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki, reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and promoting the vision of an independent Palestinian state.

In summary, Pakistan and Egypt have committed to strengthening their ties in multiple sectors, particularly at the OIC conference on Palestine. This collaboration underscores shared values and regional cooperation while addressing significant humanitarian and political issues. Their interactions highlight the importance of unity within the Muslim world regarding ongoing conflicts and the Palestinian cause.
