Hezbollah Reaffirms Commitment to End Israeli Presence in Lebanon

Hezbollah, led by Secretary General Naim Qassem, asserts its commitment to ending Israeli presence in southern Lebanon and defending national sovereignty. Despite a ceasefire, Qassem emphasizes military readiness in light of ongoing Israeli violations. He reaffirms Hezbollah’s commitment to national stability while maintaining that its weapons are crucial for confronting Israeli threats, along with a role in national reconstruction efforts amidst persistent tensions along the border.

Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Naim Qassem, has emphasized that the group will not tolerate any Israeli presence in southern Lebanon, reaffirming its commitment to national sovereignty. In a televised interview on al-Manar TV, he expressed that although a ceasefire is in effect, Hezbollah is prepared to confront any potential threats from Israel.

Qassem noted that while Hezbollah had temporarily ceased operations due to the ceasefire, the group maintained its military preparedness over the past two months. He pointed out that Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire agreement, which stipulates that Israel should withdraw beyond the Litani River — an action that has not yet been taken.

On the domestic front, Qassem reiterated Hezbollah’s dedication to national stability and governance, asserting that internal security should primarily fall under the authority of state security forces. Nonetheless, he stressed the importance of Hezbollah’s armament in addressing the perceived “existential threat” posed by Israel to Lebanon, asserting that resistance against such threats is a right that Hezbollah will uphold.

Qassem also addressed the issue of Lebanon’s reconstruction post-war, stating that rebuilding efforts in war-affected regions should be spearheaded by the Lebanese government. He affirmed Hezbollah’s influential role in the nation’s political and military spheres, indicating that the group’s resistance will endure as long as the Israeli threat lingers.

The ceasefire agreement facilitated by the US and France on November 27, 2024, aimed to cease over a year of conflicts. This agreement called for Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon within 60 days; however, Israel has failed to completely comply and has retained a military presence in five strategic border locations, citing threats from Hezbollah as justification.

Recent violence has underscored the fragile situation along the Lebanese-Israeli border, including incidents of gunfire and explosions resulting in injuries to both soldiers and civilians. These occurrences indicate that, despite the ceasefire, tensions remain high in the region.

Hezbollah, under Secretary General Naim Qassem, has reaffirmed its stance against Israeli presence in southern Lebanon, emphasizing readiness to defend Lebanese sovereignty. While maintaining a commitment to national stability, Hezbollah insists on the necessity of its arms against perceived threats. With ongoing tensions and Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement, Hezbollah’s resistance is poised to continue as long as Israeli forces are present in Lebanon. Ultimately, the group’s role in Lebanon’s reconstruction and governance is framed as essential, reflecting its deep-rooted influence in the nation.
