Hezbollah’s Commitment to Ending Israeli Presence in Lebanon

Hezbollah’s Secretary General reaffirms the group’s commitment to ending Israeli presence in southern Lebanon and emphasizes ongoing military readiness despite a ceasefire. Qassem expresses that Israel’s actions pose an existential threat to Lebanon. Despite a ceasefire agreement, Israeli forces maintain strategic positions along the border, leading to ongoing tensions and incidents involving gunfire against Lebanese civilians and soldiers.

Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Naim Qassem, reiterated the group’s firm stance against any Israeli presence in southern Lebanon, reaffirming Hezbollah’s commitment to defending the nation. In a recent interview with al-Manar TV, Qassem highlighted that despite a ceasefire agreement, Hezbollah maintained its military readiness while observing hostilities by Israel. He insisted that violations by Israel necessitate ongoing resistance, as the group’s armament is essential for facing the existential threat posed by Israel.

Qassem also discussed domestic stability, asserting Hezbollah’s support for governance and the need for the exclusive authority of security forces over national security. He expressed that the reconstruction of war-torn areas represents a state responsibility, while Hezbollah’s political and military influence remains significant amidst ongoing threats from Israel. He declared, “resistance is Lebanon’s right.”

The ceasefire agreement on November 27, 2024, was intended to end extensive hostilities, having observed a two-month war with Israeli ground forces involved. It mandated the withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon within 60 days; however, Israel has continued to maintain positions along the border, citing threats from Hezbollah. Following the ceasefire, reports emerged of incidents involving Israeli gunfire, injuring Lebanese soldiers and civilians in Kafr Kila village and border areas.

Although the ceasefire has been brokered by the US and France to conclude over a year of conflict triggered by the Gaza war, Israeli forces still occupy strategic locations. They have overlooked the deadline for withdrawal and continue to conduct strikes in Lebanon, which they justify as necessary to neutralize perceived threats from Hezbollah.

In summary, Hezbollah’s leadership continues to challenge the Israeli military presence in Lebanon, emphasizing the need for resistance and national defense. The recent ceasefire has seen some reduction in hostilities, yet Israel’s ongoing operations indicate that tensions remain high. Furthermore, Hezbollah’s involvement in domestic governance and reconstruction highlights its complex role within Lebanese society, reinforcing its stance against perceived threats from Israel.
