The Supreme Judicial Council of Qatar celebrated the fourth International Day of Women Judges in Geneva, with participation from various organizations. The event, linked to the Human Rights Council session, signifies Qatar’s commitment to gender equality in the judiciary. The day was officially recognized during the UN General Assembly’s 75th session, emphasizing Qatar’s leadership in this domain.
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), in partnership with the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Human Rights Council, commemorated the fourth International Day of Women Judges. This celebration occurred alongside the 58th session of the Human Rights Council held in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dr. Hessa Al Sulaiti, Senior Judge at the Court of Appeal, represented the SJC delegation, which also included notable figures such as Fatima Al Mal, First Deputy President of the Court of First Instance, and Judge Aisha Al Emadi, along with various directors from specialized administrative units within the Council.
Numerous national and global organizations contributed to the celebrations, including the National Human Rights Committee, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the International Association of Women Judges based in Washington, DC.
The International Day of Women Judges was established during the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, thanks to an initiative from the State of Qatar. This development highlights Qatar’s commitment to advancing gender equality within the judiciary, in line with sustainable development goals and the Qatar National Vision 2030.
