Emphasizing cooperation, Madbouly noted the challenges of delivering aid and highlighted Egypt’s significant contributions. Forbes praised Egypt’s role in these efforts and expressed hopes for future collaboration on reconstruction.
On Tuesday, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Kate Forbes, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), to engage in discussions regarding humanitarian efforts related to the Gaza Strip and Egypt’s role in delivering aid. The meeting, which included notable officials such as Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy and Ambassador Mohamed Mounir, emphasized the partnership between Egypt and the IFRC.
During the meeting, Madbouly acknowledged the IFRC as the “largest network of humanitarian organizations,” consisting of over 190 national societies and 16 million volunteers. He reaffirmed Egypt’s dedication to continued collaboration with the IFRC, especially regarding recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
“Egypt will remain committed to providing the necessary assistance to the residents of the Gaza Strip,” Madbouly asserted while noting the challenges posed by “Israeli practices that prevent the entry of aid.” He highlighted the pressing need for assistance for Gaza residents, particularly during Ramadan.
Madbouly reported that Egypt had delivered more than 7,000 aid trucks to Gaza between January 19 and March 2, stating, “70% of this assistance came from Egypt,” since the crisis began in October 2023. He expressed hope for the involvement of the IFRC’s network in implementing the early recovery and reconstruction plan during the initial six-month phase.
The Prime Minister also highlighted Egypt’s initiatives in supporting Sudanese refugees by establishing five humanitarian service points along the border with Sudan through the Egyptian Red Crescent. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to the sovereignty, unity, security, and stability of Syria.
Kate Forbes praised the collaboration between the IFRC and the Egyptian government, noting Egypt’s “prominent role” in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza. She mentioned her discussions with Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty and Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy, which reaffirmed this collaboration.
“Egypt played the most prominent role in terms of delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip,” Forbes stated, expressing anticipation for further cooperation with Egypt on the humanitarian aspects of the Gaza reconstruction plan and a desire to expand regional activities from Egypt.
Maya Morsy expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s support in facilitating humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza, conveying her eagerness to work with the IFRC on the reconstruction plan’s humanitarian components.
The meeting between Prime Minister Madbouly and IFRC President Forbes highlighted the pivotal role of Egypt in providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza amidst ongoing challenges. Both parties underscored their commitment to continued collaboration, particularly concerning the reconstruction efforts in Gaza. Furthermore, there was an emphasis on Egypt’s support for Sudanese refugees and the overall regional stability, ensuring humanitarian aid remains a priority during crises.
