Former Mauritius Envoy Praises PM Modi’s Leadership and India-Mauritius Ties

Former Mauritius High Commissioner Mookhesswur Choonee praised PM Modi’s visit, emphasizing the strong cultural and diplomatic bonds between India and Mauritius. Choonee highlighted the natural kinship between the populations and expressed hopes for further agreements to strengthen their relationship. He lauded India’s initiatives aimed at promoting peace in the Indian Ocean, especially praising Modi for embodying the philosophy of ‘Vasudhev Kutumbakam.’

Mookhesswur Choonee, the former High Commissioner of Mauritius to India, commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mauritius, emphasizing the potential for collaboration to enhance bilateral relations. He expressed gratitude for Prime Minister Modi’s dedication, remarking on the historic nature of the visit amidst the leader’s busy schedule.

Choonee characterized India-Mauritius relations as “excellent” due to deep-rooted connections, stating, “70 per cent of our population has your DNA,” which fosters a strong bond between the nations. He described this relationship as unbreakable, akin to blood relations, indicating an inherent closeness between the two countries.

The former envoy expressed optimism regarding the forthcoming agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) expected to be signed, which will further solidify the partnership. He called for India to contribute to the development of the Indian Ocean and Mauritius’s exclusive economic zone to enhance strengthening ties.

Choonee praised India’s SAGAR initiative, highlighting its role in maintaining security within the Indian Ocean region for peace and harmony. He stated, “If there is any one leader who thinks about the world and not just his country… it is Modi. He is second to none.” This statement underscores Choonee’s firm belief in Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in promoting the philosophy of “Vasudhev Kutumbakam.”

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi served as Chief Guest at the Mauritius National Day celebrations, reaffirming the cultural and diplomatic connections between India and Mauritius. The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, recognized Modi’s contributions with the highest honor, The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, reflecting the significance of this partnership.
