Indonesia has removed over 1.3 million harmful online content pieces, including 233,552 linked to pornography and 1.12 million regarding gambling, from October 2024 to March 2025. In Indonesia, a substantial effort has been made to cleanse the internet of harmful content, resulting in the removal of over 1.3 million items from October 2024 to March 2025. This initiative was spearheaded by the Ministry of Communications and Digital, with public participation playing a vital role in the success of this campaign.
Among the removed content, 233,552 pieces pertained to pornography. Websites were responsible for 219,578 removals, while Platform X (formerly known as Twitter) accounted for 10,173 removals, and other platforms contributed 3,801 cases.
In addressing online gambling, 1.12 million harmful items were eliminated. Websites and IP addresses accounted for 1.02 million removals, while Meta platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, contributed 46,207 removals. An additional 55,368 cases were attributed to various other platforms, highlighting the breadth of the issue.
Alexander Sabar, the digital space oversight director-general, acknowledged the substantial progress while emphasizing the ongoing battle against harmful online content. He noted that in just the first eight days of March 2025, over 58,000 instances of harmful content had been checked, indicating a persistent challenge.
To enhance future efforts, the ministry plans to upgrade its AI-based monitoring system for quicker detection of harmful content. Additionally, it will collaborate with global digital platforms to enhance the efficiency of enforcement actions.
The ministry actively encourages the public to report harmful content through its official channel at https://aduankonten.id. This platform allows reporting of various detrimental content types, such as fake news and gambling, through links or screenshots submitted by concerned users.
By submitting reports, individuals significantly contribute to fostering a safer digital environment. Alexander emphasized that “Each report makes a significant impact in fostering a safer and healthier digital environment.”
