Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs of Iran, has emphatically stated that the Iranian people will not submit to any external requests made under pressure, sanctions, or threats. During the inauguration of an exhibition focused on Iranian women’s accomplishments, he noted that sanctions infringe upon rights across various domains and have a detrimental impact on people’s lives; however, such measures will ultimately fail to achieve their intended objectives.
Gharibabadi further contended that Western nations can no longer position themselves as champions of human rights while simultaneously alleging violations by others. He pointed out the hypocrisy in their actions, where those professing to support human rights are, in fact, significant violators of the rights of the Iranian populace, having enacted unilateral sanctions and condemned Iran through resolutions in international bodies such as the United Nations Human Rights Council and the UN General Assembly.
He asserted that the Islamic Republic of Iran remains resolute in its commitment to uphold and advance human rights, declaring that Iran itself is a victim of terrorism, with over 23,000 Iranians, including men, women, and children, having lost their lives to terrorist activities. Gharibabadi also denounced the actions of the Israeli regime in Gaza, noting that those professing to champion human rights have failed to take meaningful action and continue to support Israel politically, financially, and militarily.
Earlier, on February 24, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi voiced concerns regarding the manipulation of human rights by certain countries as a means of exerting political and economic influence or interfering in the domestic matters of other nations. He urged governments worldwide to engage in the protection and promotion of human rights founded on fairness and impartiality. Araqchi reiterated that Iran has long endured the ramifications of such misguided policies, calling for the immediate removal of all unilateral sanctions that violate the fundamental rights of the Iranian people and have inflicted suffering on millions.
