The PSC announced that 205 clerical officers failed a proficiency examination, necessitating resits. The most failed subject was Human Resource Services, while 673 candidates successfully passed the exam. One candidate’s results were canceled due to irregularities.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) has recently released a notice concerning 205 government workers who did not succeed in the proficiency examination for clerical officers conducted from September 23 to 26, 2024. The notice, published in the Kenya Gazette on March 7, specifies the subjects that each candidate failed in, mandating them to retake these subjects.
Among the candidates, the most frequently failed elective subject was Human Resource Services, which saw a high volume of failures across various ministries. Other subjects where candidates experienced difficulties included communication skills, supply services, records management, and accounts. The candidates represent multiple government ministries and state departments, predominantly from the Interior and National Administration Ministry.
In addition to these failures, there was one male candidate from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration whose examination results were annulled due to irregularities. The PSC stated, “The following one (1) candidate was involved in an examination irregularity and his results have been canceled.”
Conversely, there was notable success, as 673 clerical officers passed the proficiency examination. The PSC emphasized this achievement in the same notice, indicating, “It is notified for general information that the following six hundred and seventy-three (673) candidates passed the Proficiency Examination for Clerical Officers held from 23rd to 26th September 2024.”
The results of this examination highlight both the challenges faced by a segment of the public service personnel and the successes achieved by the majority, reflecting the need for continuous professional development within the government workforce.
In conclusion, the Public Service Commission’s recent notice underscores significant outcomes from the clerical officers’ proficiency examination. While 205 candidates will need to retake specific subjects due to failing the exam, a substantial 673 candidates successfully passed. This variation in performance highlights areas for improvement in training and education within the public service sector.
