Faquira Massalo, the Director of Public Works in Nampula, indicated that the breach in the EN1 measures approximately 15 meters in length and has a depth ranging from 5 to 7 meters. The National Roads Administration (ANE) is actively assessing the situation alongside the contractor’s engineers to implement an effective emergency response, which includes installing washers to facilitate water flow.
Numerous locations across Nampula province are currently inaccessible, with significant cuts noted from Nametil to Angoche, Nampula to Liúpio, the Naguema to Chocas-mar intersection, and several other segments. These disruptions have greatly impacted transportation within the region.
Anacleta Botão, delegate of the National Institute of Disaster Management (INGD) in Nampula, reported that substantial data on the cyclone’s human impact is not yet available due to team limitations in conducting ground surveys, as weather conditions only improved on Tuesday morning. Nonetheless, emergency kits have been strategically positioned in areas previously identified as likely to be affected by the storm.
