Tropical Cyclone Jude made landfall in the Mossuril district of Mozambique’s Nampula Province at approximately 06:00 local time on March 10, 2025. This system marked the region’s third cyclone occurrence within three months, leading to severe flooding and destruction due to its powerful winds and heavy rain.
The cyclone was characterized by maximum sustained winds near its center of 120 km/h (75 mph), with gusts reaching 195 km/h (120 mph). This forceful weather resulted in extensive damage across the affected areas, causing downed electricity pylons and leaving around 40,000 households without power.

Heavy rainfall reaching up to 200 mm (7.9 inches) within 24 hours was forecasted for several coastal districts, including Memba, Monapo, Mossuril, Mozambique Island, and Nacala.
The aftermath of Jude has seen extensive flooding, leading to the destruction or damage of numerous homes, buildings, and roads throughout the region. In response, the provincial education directorate mandated the closure of all schools for safety reasons during this time.
Despite the destruction, there have been no reported fatalities or injuries, and authorities are currently in the process of assessing the full extent of the damage caused by the cyclone.
