FLSmidth has launched an Advanced Service Centre in Ghana to boost mining productivity. The facility will provide training, advanced technologies, and a wide range of services to optimize mining operations. FLSmidth has inaugurated a new state-of-the-art Advanced Service Centre in Ghana, aiming to enhance productivity not only in Ghana’s mining sector but throughout the West African region. This facility is tailored to offer comprehensive training, cutting-edge technologies, and various services that will aid mining companies in optimizing their operations. Additionally, it will function as a distribution hub for essential equipment and spare parts, facilitating business expansion and generating revenue locally.
At the launch event on March 11, 2025, FLSmidth Group CEO Mikko Keto emphasized Ghana’s robust mining expertise and stable business climate as pivotal factors influencing their investment decision. “In the past, we’ve been too focused on South Africa. Now, we aim to be more present in Ghana to better support our customers. Ghana is a stable, well-run country with significant mining competence, making it an ideal location for this investment,” remarked Keto.
The service centre is expected to expedite equipment deliveries and enhance refurbishment services, greatly minimizing lead times for mining firms. Keto further stated, “This facility will serve as a stocking location for production spare parts, ensuring quicker deliveries across Ghana and West Africa. Additionally, we can fully refurbish equipment here, bringing it back to the centre for maintenance before returning it to site.”
Tom Nørring, the Danish Ambassador to Ghana, lauded the initiative for its potential to stimulate economic development, job creation, and strengthen the private sector. He pointed out, “FLSmidth’s investment in Ghana sets a strong example for balanced trade and investment. It fosters collaboration, creates local jobs, upskills the workforce, and strengthens Ghana’s private sector while remaining economically viable for international investors.”
Sulemanu Koney, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, also praised the project, aligning it with the chamber’s mission to position Ghana as a hub for mining support services. He noted, “This investment by FLSmidth supports our goal of making Ghana a central hub for mining services. It presents a valuable opportunity to increase value retention within the country.” He underlined the significance of local economic circulation, adding, “When mining sector expenditures lead to value creation and retention through local training, spending, and reinvestment, we truly build a stronger economy for our nation.”
