Al Attiyah articulated the urgency of confronting direct challenges impacting values fundamental to international institutions. “Now is the time for global leadership to protect our present and future generations from the radical and profound transformations that the world is witnessing today,” she asserted. She further expressed that this gathering serves as an opportunity for national human rights institutions worldwide to unite in their commitment to the universal principles of international law.
Addressing interconnected global issues such as humanitarian crises, climate change, and discrimination, Al Attiyah insisted that resolving these challenges demands strengthened dialogue and adherence to international law. She noted, “These challenges must be addressed through strengthening dialogue and cooperation, while firmly adhering to international law.”
At this annual conference, focused on the rights of women and girls and their role in attaining gender equality, Al Attiyah highlighted that significant advancements have been made, yet inequality remains. She cautioned against attempts to reverse hard-won gains for women, stating, “The most worrying development is that hard-won gains in women’s rights are under attack in a variety of areas.”
Al Attiyah reaffirmed the pivotal role of national human rights institutions in promoting and protecting rights, asserting that this mission necessitates collaboration and support. She concluded with a hopeful call for continued dedication to a shared vision for a world where basic rights are preserved, stating, “Let us continue together our journey towards achieving our shared vision of building a world in which basic rights are respected and the dignity of every human being is preserved.”
