Since its inception, the initiative has implemented a unified electronic system connecting various entities involved in treatment decision-making, which facilitates patient transfers between healthcare sectors as needed. Dr. Mustafa further encouraged patients seeking surgical interventions to register through the initiative’s dedicated website and utilize the hotline for inquiries.
As of now, the initiative has successfully conducted 2,700,736 surgeries to reduce waiting lists for critical procedures. Notably, 260,033 inquiries have been received from patients via the hotline since the program’s initiation, with 220,452 cases actively monitored between July 2023 and February 2025. The initiative encompasses various surgical specialties, including cardiology, orthopedics, oncology, and neurology, ensuring that patients receive treatment quickly and efficiently.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, explained that this initiative, started in July 2018 by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, was established to address chronic wait times in the healthcare system. Prior to its launch, patients experienced prolonged waiting periods, averaging from one to 18 months for essential surgeries.
The initiative has significantly reduced these waiting periods, with the current average wait time dropping to two to three weeks. Funding for the program comes from the state’s budget and generous donations from various organizations, ensuring that services remain entirely free for patients in need.
