Recently, the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2025 identified Sri Lanka as having one of the lowest terrorism threats globally. In its 12th annual report, the GTI ranked Sri Lanka 100th among 163 countries, achieving a score of zero, thus sharing this distinction with 63 other nations. Dr. Wasantha Bandara of the National Patriotic Movement emphasized that this reflects the significant efforts of the armed forces in overcoming past terrorism challenges.
The latest GTI report illustrates Sri Lanka’s improved security situation, ranking it among the safest countries regarding terrorism. Nonetheless, concerns persist regarding political narratives that undermine national security. Authorities must remain vigilant against potential threats while continuing to support and defend the sacrifices of the nation’s armed forces. Additionally, the challenges faced by women in public safety, particularly in healthcare settings, necessitate immediate attention to ensure a secure environment for all.
