President Bola Tinubu has urged leaders and stakeholders from the South-South and Niger Delta regions to support his administration’s initiatives for developing the Niger Delta. This call was articulated in a statement from Seledi Thompson-Wakama, director of corporate affairs at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), following a recent meeting with the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Mr. Tinubu highlighted that obtaining support from regional leaders and stakeholders could significantly expedite development in the Niger Delta, referring to the area as “the goose that lays the golden egg.” He underscored the urgent need for focused developmental efforts, emphasizing that neglect would be detrimental.

Acknowledging the ongoing political tensions in Rivers state, the president assured that he has been actively working towards restoring peace among rival factions, stating, “I got your (PANDEF’s) signal and concerns regarding Rivers State, and I have been on the issue for quite some time.” He urged political leaders to collaborate effectively with developmental agencies to enhance regional development.

Mr. Tinubu commended Samuel Ogbuku, the NDDC managing director, for his impactful contributions to the region’s economic and infrastructure advancements. He expressed pride in Ogbuku’s efforts, stressing that community development holds significant importance to him, and encouraged continued support for Ogbuku’s initiatives.

In addition, the president urged Niger Delta leaders to engage in selfless leadership and focus on revitalizing the region’s political and economic future. He expressed optimism regarding ongoing projects, such as the coastal road initiative, which is anticipated to create new economic opportunities for the region.

He further revealed that the federal government has involved international companies to develop new ports in the Niger Delta, aiming to enhance economic prospects. King Alfred Diete-Spiff, co-chairman of PANDEF’s Board of Trustees, commended Mr. Tinubu’s commitment to the South-South region and appreciated the appointments of Niger Delta indigenes to government roles.

In conclusion, Mr. Diete-Spiff remarked, “Your government has taken the bull by the horns, and we are confident that you will succeed.” The sentiments expressed reveal widespread optimism concerning the future development of the Niger Delta under President Tinubu’s leadership.

In summary, President Bola Tinubu has reached out to regional leaders and stakeholders to garner support for the development of the Niger Delta, emphasizing the area’s economic significance.
