Houthi Leader Criticizes Morocco’s Support for Palestine

Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, leader of Yemen’s Houthi movement, accused Morocco of collaborating with Israel in his criticism of the Moroccan government’s stance on the Palestinian cause. He highlighted a disconnect between the government’s actions and the sentiments of the Moroccan people. In contrast, King Mohammed VI has been an outspoken advocate for Palestine, emphasizing humanitarian aid and a two-state solution.

In a recent televised address, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, leader of Yemen’s Houthi movement, criticized Morocco’s support for the Palestinian cause. Speaking on the Houthi-affiliated channel Al-Masirah, he accused Morocco of being a “collaborator, a traitor, and complicit with the Israeli enemy.” These remarks indicate a significant escalation in tensions between the Houthis, who receive backing from Iran, and the Moroccan government.

Al-Houthi’s comments reflect an attempt to challenge Morocco’s growing economic ties with Israel, emphasizing a perceived disconnect between the government’s actions and Islamic values. He articulated discontent with Morocco’s involvement in relations with Israel during a broader critique of various Arab nations’ ties with the Israeli state.

Despite Al-Houthi’s pointed accusations, Morocco’s government, led by King Mohammed VI, maintains strong support for the Palestinian cause. The King has been an ardent advocate for Palestinian rights, often calling for peace efforts and emphasizing the necessity of a ceasefire in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict.

King Mohammed VI, who chairs the Al-Quds Committee, has prioritized a two-state solution, advocating for the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. In his July Throne Day speech, he highlighted the urgent need for an effective resolution regarding the Palestinian crisis, linking it to regional stability.

As part of Morocco’s humanitarian efforts amidst the Israeli conflict in Gaza, the King directed the provision of significant aid totaling 40 tons, aimed at alleviating shortages faced by local hospitals due to continuous attacks. This shipment included essential supplies, such as food, water, and medical necessities, delivered via the Karem Abu Salem crossing.

Abdul-Malik al-Houthi’s accusations against Morocco signal an intensified strain between the Houthi movement and the Moroccan government regarding the Palestinian issue. While Al-Houthi criticizes Morocco’s economic ties with Israel, King Mohammed VI remains committed to supporting Palestinian rights and humanitarian efforts, asserting the importance of a two-state solution and regional stability. Morocco’s actions reflect its dedication to the Palestinian cause despite external criticisms.
