Somalia and Somaliland have rejected any discussions regarding the resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza. Their foreign ministers confirmed that they have not received any proposals from the U.S. or Israel, with Somalia’s Foreign Minister stating a commitment to the Palestinian right to their land.
Somalia and its autonomous region Somaliland have firmly stated they shall not engage in discussions regarding the resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza. Their foreign ministers have clarified that no proposals have been presented from either the United States or Israel pertaining to this matter. According to the Associated Press, U.S. and Israeli officials alleged that they contacted officials in Sudan, Somalia, and Somaliland to explore the possibility of utilizing their lands for resettling Palestinians displaced from Gaza.
Officials from Sudan have already rejected the U.S. proposal, and both Somalia and Somaliland maintain they are unaware of any such communications. Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi emphasized that Somalia would categorically oppose “any proposal or initiative, from any party, that would undermine the Palestinian people’s right to live peacefully on their ancestral land.” He further indicated that Mogadishu is against any plans that would involve utilizing Somali territory for resettling other populations.
Both Somalia and Somaliland have firmly declined any proposition to resettle Palestinians from Gaza, emphasizing their sovereign stance on this sensitive issue. They have not received any formal proposals and maintain a commitment to supporting the rights of the Palestinian people.
