The German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, has announced a commitment of 300 million euros in humanitarian aid for Syria, underscoring Germany’s support for the region. She made this declaration during an EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Brussels, emphasizing the importance of an inclusive political process for attaining peaceful coexistence in Syria.

Baerbock articulated that the reconstruction of Syria is a “serious task,” committing the funds to be distributed among the United Nations and selected organizations meant to aid the Syrian populace. Specifically, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs will contribute 168 million euros, while 133 million euros will be allocated from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

A significant portion of the financial support will be directed towards benefiting the Syrian people, alongside provisions for Syrian refugees and the communities hosting them in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Turkey. This move highlights Germany’s strategic approach to humanitarian assistance in the region.
