The victims, numbering around 15, exhibited headshot wounds, while some showed signs of having been alive when disposed of. Hisham Zain al-Abdin, the director of forensic medicine in Khartoum state, indicated that additional bodies have been located in basements and along roadsides, including those showing signs of being bound.
Sudan’s Civil War has persisted for nearly two years, with government forces reclaiming territories previously held by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which had separated from military authority in April 2023. Authorities have reported extensive evidence of killings in regions formerly controlled by the RSF. However, the RSF has refrained from commenting on these reports but has historically denied engaging in large-scale abuses.
One local resident, Hussein al-Faki, noted that despite attempts to bury the victims, they faced threats from armed men during the RSF’s occupancy. He stated, “If you got closer, they would shoot you. They scared us, so we ran away and left them.” The RSF has also accused the army of committing various abuses, which the military denies, indicating a contentious and dangerous atmosphere in the region.
