Chairman Frank Holmes made this announcement during The Street’s Roundtable, emphasizing that Paraguay’s extensive hydroelectric resources will be pivotal for the company’s growth.
Holmes highlighted that the anticipated expansion positions Paraguay as a key operational base for Hive Digital. He stated, “We’re going to go up above 400%. You got to think that we’re going to be having triplets over the next nine months as we build out Paraguay, which has a huge surplus of hydroelectricity.” This initiative aims to establish a robust framework for the company, fueled by Paraguay’s favorable energy conditions.
The collaboration stands to benefit the Paraguayan government as well, as Hive Digital will be purchasing electricity generated from the Itaipu dam in U.S. dollars, which provides a lucrative revenue stream for the country. Holmes remarked, “We’re actually a great engine for the government because they’re going to get paid U.S. dollars every month for that electricity, and we help build out the infrastructure within the community.”
Despite recent power fee increases for bitcoin miners imposed by the government, which prompted concerns about the mining industry’s viability in Paraguay, the government remains optimistic about industry sustainability. President Santiago Pena affirmed that these new fees might reduce profit margins but would not deter mining operations in the country.
