Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak received a food donation from HUDAI Foundation for prisoners. The donation includes various essentials and aims to support inmate rehabilitation. HUDAI, backed by the Turkish government, also contributes to infrastructure and humanitarian efforts in Ghana, including Ramadan food distribution and clean water solutions.
Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister for the Interior, has recently accepted a donation of essential food supplies from the Human Development Association International (HUDAI) Foundation. This Turkish-based organization is actively engaged in various humanitarian initiatives within Ghana. The contribution, intended for inmates, aligns with the foundation’s annual charitable efforts to support the Ghana Prisons Service.
The donation, comprising bags of rice, cooking oil, tomato paste, sugar, and spaghetti, was presented on March 14, 2025. On March 21, 2025, Minister Mohammed-Mubarak expressed his gratitude for this generous gesture, highlighting its significance in alleviating the difficulties faced by prisoners. He assured that the provided items would be utilized appropriately and encouraged other organizations to extend similar assistance.
He remarked, “Imprisonment is not a death sentence. Providing for inmates improves their well-being and aids in their rehabilitation.” Abdurahim Yüce, the Project Coordinator for HUDAI, reiterated the foundation’s commitment to serving humanity, emphasizing that their mission is founded on goodwill and the desire to create a positive impact, appealing only for prayers in return.
As part of its Ramadan initiative, the HUDAI Foundation has distributed over 8,000 food packages to families, particularly those observing the fast. These packages include staple items such as rice, cooking oil, and spaghetti, intended to support underprivileged individuals, including prisoners. The foundation has also organized special packages for Muslims to break their fast following prayers.
Supported by the Turkish government, HUDAI has significantly contributed to Ghana’s development, especially in areas such as infrastructure, education, and humanitarian aid. The organization was instrumental in constructing the Ghana National Mosque in Accra, which boasts a capacity of 15,000 and ranks as the second-largest mosque in West Africa.
The mosque complex encompasses a library, office spaces, residential accommodations, a research facility, a senior high school, a clinic, an administration block, an auditorium, and a conference center. Additionally, the foundation has made strides in providing clean water solutions throughout Ghana, establishing numerous boreholes in communities without access to potable water. In 2019, it completed four electric mechanized boreholes in Tamale, part of a broader goal of 100 boreholes for underserved regions. It has also been actively involved in building schools to bolster the government’s educational initiatives.
In conclusion, the recent donation of food supplies by HUDAI Foundation signifies a valuable contribution towards the well-being of inmates in Ghana. The Ministry of the Interior emphasizes the importance of such support for inmate rehabilitation. HUDAI’s broader efforts in humanitarian aid, including provisions for Ramadan and infrastructure development, exemplify their commitment to improving the lives of the underprivileged in Ghana.
