MTN CHAMPS Benin Athletics Classics: A Showcase of Excellence in Athletics

The MTN CHAMPS Benin Athletics Classics featured three dominating teams: Government Model, Delta Secondary School, and Vision High. Highlights include Delta winning the Cadet Girls, Government Model triumphing in the Boys’ events, and Vision High excelling in Youth Girls. Delta State shone in the Junior division while Bayelsa took the Senior category. The event concluded with plans for the next leg in Lagos from April 9th to 12th.

The first leg of Season 3 of the MTN CHAMPS held in Benin showcased exceptional performances by three leading teams: Government Model, Delta Secondary School, and Vision High. The standout results highlighted their dominance in various divisions during the athletics classics.

In the Cadet (U-14) Girls’ division, Delta Secondary School topped the chart with a remarkable 50 points, followed by Ado Girls at 33 points, while SAM-KAY secured third place with 20 points. For the Boys’ division, Government Model Asaba dominated, achieving 86 points, significantly surpassing Benin Technical, which garnered 43 points. Key athletes, David Ekunwe and Daniel Okwokwo, excelled by winning gold and silver medals across multiple events.

Vision High emerged triumphant in the Youth (U-17) Girls’ category, achieving an impressive total of 102 points, largely thanks to Blessing Ezeh, who scored 20 points with victories in the Shot Put and Discus Throw. The Lord’s Own International School came in second with 39 points, and Osadenis ranked third with 31 points. Government Model also excelled in the Youth Boys’ segment, amassing 58 points ahead of Beje High School and Vision High.

The Junior (U-20) Team event highlighted Delta State’s dominance, as they accrued 162 points, significantly leading over HIT, which scored 94 points, and Global Power with 79 points. Bosa David Kosisochukwu achieved notable success, clinching two gold medals in Shot Put and Javelin, alongside a bronze in the Discus Throw.

In the Senior Team category, Bayelsa claimed victory with 114 points, while Edo followed closely with 87 points, and Team MTN placed third with 48 points. Following this exciting conclusion in Benin, the MTN CHAMPS anticipates an engaging continuation in Lagos from April 9th to 12th.

The inaugural leg of the MTN CHAMPS Season 3 exemplified a competitive spirit, with Government Model, Delta Secondary School, and Vision High securing commendable victories across multiple divisions.
