Opportunities Abound at the Papua New Guinea Industrial and Mining Resources Expo

The Papua New Guinea Industrial and Mining Resources Exhibition (PNG Expo) will take place on July 2-3 at the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby. This event will feature key exhibitors and provide networking opportunities. The resources industry is central to PNG’s economic growth, with significant gas developments underway, including the Angore project and ongoing advancements by Santos and others, ensuring sustained LNG production.

Papua New Guinea (PNG) is experiencing a significant influx of energy industry leaders, creating numerous opportunities for suppliers and contractors. The forthcoming Papua New Guinea Industrial and Mining Resources Exhibition and Conference (PNG Expo) is set to occur at the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby on July 2–3. This event will provide resources companies with a chance to network, expand their businesses, and participate in a diverse speaker program alongside a curated exhibition floor.

Several key companies, including Metso, Blackwoods, Sandvik, Dreager, Lincom, and Putzmeister, have confirmed their participation, with TriCab also renewing its sponsorship for 2025. The resources industry remains a vital contributor to PNG’s economic growth, with a rich history characterized by the extraction of gold, copper, silver, nickel, oil, and gas.

In recent developments, key players such as Santos, ExxonMobil, and Kumul Petroleum Holdings achieved a landmark with the Angore gas development, which will exploit a one trillion cubic feet natural gas resource. This development is expected to provide approximately 350 million standard cubic feet per day, thereby bolstering the long-term production of PNG LNG.

Since commencing production in April 2014, the PNG LNG project has delivered over 83 million tonnes of LNG to Asian markets, supported by over $19 billion in investments. Santos Managing Director Kevin Gallagher emphasized the significance of production success at Angore, indicating the prolific nature of PNG’s gas resources.

Santos is also exploring various other gas projects. Gallagher disclosed that “associated gas from Agogo and Moran could deliver at least another 125 mmscf per day,” with aims to finalize investment decisions by 2026. Additionally, the company is drilling the Hides Footwall well, which may yield significant production potential.

There remains a rich pipeline of gas fields such as P’nyang, Muruk, and Juha that are expected to enhance PNG LNG’s output. Gallagher remarked, “This is a great position for Santos and PNG LNG to be in – we are spoilt for choice with no shortage of healthy upstream development options to keep our LNG infrastructure full.” It is evident why the PNG Expo is attracting significant attention from industry professionals.

In conclusion, the upcoming PNG Expo represents a pivotal opportunity for industry stakeholders to connect and pursue growth in a thriving economic landscape. With notable advancements in gas production, Papua New Guinea’s resources sector continues to flourish, driven by key players doing pioneering work. The collective potential of multiple gas developments promises to sustain and enhance PNG LNG production well into the future, further solidifying PNG’s position in the global energy market.
