While affluent business travelers may still enter, restrictions will be imposed on immigrant and tourist visa applicants, requiring in-person interviews for those on the Orange List.
Other countries placed in the Orange List are Myanmar, Belarus, Haiti, Laos, Eritrea, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Turkmenistan. In contrast, the Red List encompasses 10 countries, including Afghanistan and Bhutan, where citizens could be subjected to a full visa suspension.
The additional countries on the Red List include Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen. Furthermore, the proposal outlines a “Yellow” List of 22 nations granted 60 days to rectify perceived deficiencies. If compliance is not achieved, these countries risk moving onto one of the other lists.
Countries on the Yellow List face challenges related to inadequate sharing of information on incoming travelers, unsatisfactory passport security practices, and potential citizenship issues linked to banned nations. This list comprises Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, and others.
This potential travel ban would mark the second instance of such a policy under President Trump, following a previous ban during his first term that restricted entry for citizens from seven Muslim-majority nations. That earlier ban faced numerous legal challenges before it was ultimately upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018.
