ULAA Denies Endorsement of Vice President Koung, Focuses on Neutrality and Inclusion

The ULAA president refutes claims of endorsing Vice President Koung for the 2029 election, affirming ULAA’s political neutrality. Meanwhile, RICCE held a technical meeting to implement the Gender Action Plan with GLA partners, highlighting the importance of gender inclusivity in projects and celebrating collaborative efforts towards this goal.

The president of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA), Mohamed Keita, has denied claims made by FrontPage Africa and the Daily Observer concerning an endorsement of Vice President Jeremiah Koung for the 2029 presidential elections. Keita stated, “Let it be made abundantly clear that at no point have I, nor has ULAA, endorsed Vice President Koung or any other political candidate for the upcoming election.” He reiterated ULAA’s commitment to political neutrality, emphasizing the organization’s mission of representing all Liberians without political bias.

Keita explained that statements made during a Town Hall meeting on March 8, 2025, in Philadelphia were misconstrued. His remarks were aimed at fostering dialogue and strengthening the relationship between the Liberian government and the diaspora community, focusing on key issues such as voting rights from abroad and support for returning Liberians. He expressed that these topics are essential for integrating all Liberians into the democratic process.

As the 2029 elections approach, Keita assured that ULAA will maintain constructive engagement with the government and stakeholders to promote policies advantageous to all Liberians globally. He clarified that ULAA does not endorse any specific candidates, stating, “Our commitment ensures that ULAA remains a unifying force for the Liberian community, upholding our policy of neutrality in all political matters.”

In related news, RICCE held a technical meeting on March 14, 2025, to implement the Organization’s Gender Action Plan (OGAP) across Green Livelihoods Alliance (GLA) partners. The meeting gathered various partners, including Sustainable Development Institute (SDI) and Community Rights Support Facility (CRSF), to review progress and address challenges faced during OGAP implementation.

Madam Renee N. Gibson, RICCE Program Manager, emphasized the necessity of incorporating gender considerations in GLA activities. She remarked, “Gender equality is not just a goal; it’s a pathway to achieving greatness for women and rural communities.” Similarly, Madam Korpo Davis from SDI highlighted the importance of OGAP implementation across all levels of SDI’s operations.

The intensive one-day meeting provided partners with essential skills to effectively implement OGAP. Participants engaged in discussions, shared experiences, and acknowledged the significance of integrating gender actions into their projects. They committed to working collaboratively with RICCE to tailor their approaches to their unique project needs, recognizing the potential for meaningful impacts through their combined efforts. The participants concluded the meeting with enthusiasm and clarity about their roles in executing the OGAP, geared to support the Green Livelihoods mission.

In summary, the president of ULAA firmly denied any endorsements for political candidates, reiterating the organization’s non-partisan mission. Meanwhile, RICCE’s technical meeting focused on implementing gender-inclusive practices in collaboration with GLA partners, underscoring the importance of gender equality in project planning. Both events reflect a commitment towards inclusivity and active participation of all Liberians and marginalized groups in democratic processes and project initiatives, fostering a brighter future for the community.
