The International Judo Federation (IJF) is set to conduct its fourth Grand Slam tournament for 2025 in Tbilisi, Georgia, from March 21 to 23. This event will feature over 400 judokas from 53 countries, making it the largest Grand Slam of the year, surpassing Paris, Baku, and Tashkent, which had 50, 36, and 23 nations, respectively.
The Mongolian Judo team, comprising 20 athletes, including 11 men and 9 women, is under the guidance of Head Coach Erdenebaatar Uuganbayar, alongside coaches Nyamlkhagva Purevdorj, Boldbaatar Chimed-Yondon, and Boldbaatar Ganbat. Competitors include K. Yolk and E. Ariunbold in the men’s 60 kg, O. Shinebayar in the 81 kg, and B. Gonchigsuren in the +100 kg category, among others.
In the women’s division, G. Narantsetseg and J. Anudari will compete in the 48 kg category, with M. Ichinkhorloo and T. Ariunzaya in the 57 kg, and A. Dulamsuren in the -78 kg category. The lineup indicates a strong presence for Mongolia in various weight classes.
Historically, Mongolia has performed well in this tournament. In 2021, M. Urantsetseg and Ts. Tsogt-Ochir earned gold medals. In 2023, B. Erdenebayar won gold while others secured silver and bronze medals. However, the most recent tournament saw no medals despite all 12 participants competing.
