Nepal Appeals to US for Assistance in Securing Release of Bipin Joshi

During her meeting with Ricky Gill, Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, in New Delhi, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba appealed for United States assistance to secure the release of Bipin Joshi, who is currently held captive by Hamas. This meeting took place on the occasion of the 10th edition of the Raisina Dialogue 2025, organized by India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

The discussions not only focused on Joshi’s situation but also explored ways to strengthen relations between Nepal and the United States, which are founded on mutually upheld democratic values and human rights. Minister Deuba expressed optimism regarding the potential growth of cooperation between the two nations in the future.

Minister Deuba emphasized her previous requests to the US government for assistance in achieving Joshi’s freedom. Additionally, she mentioned that Nepal has reached out to various countries, including Israel, Qatar, and Egypt, in its quest for support. She reiterated her hope that the United States would provide essential aid in facilitating Joshi’s release.

Bipin Joshi was abducted during the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, a tragedy that resulted in the deaths of over a thousand individuals, including ten Nepali citizens. Since this incident, the Government of Nepal has been actively pursuing diplomatic avenues to ensure Joshi’s safe return, with Minister Deuba consistently advocating for his release at both national and regional platforms, including the United Nations.
