North Korea Condemns U.S. Military Action Against Yemen Rebels

North Korea criticized U.S. military actions against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, labeling it a violation of international law. Ambassador Ma Tong-hui condemned the airstrike that resulted in civilian casualties and urged the international community to protest. He emphasized the need to stop U.S. forceful actions which he claims disrupts regional peace.

On Tuesday, North Korea formally condemned the United States for its military actions against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, describing it as a “wanton” violation of international law. Ma Tong-hui, North Korean ambassador to Egypt and envoy to Yemen, expressed this sentiment in a report by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), following reports of a significant U.S. military operation in Yemen targeting the Iran-aligned group.

The military operation reportedly resulted in numerous casualties, including many women and children, as indicated by health authorities in Yemen. The United States had previously designated the Houthi rebels as a “foreign terrorist organization” earlier this year.

Ambassador Ma stated, “This military attack by the U.S. is a wanton violation of all international laws including the U.N. Charter and it is an open encroachment upon the sovereignty of other nation that can never be justified.” He articulated serious concerns regarding U.S. actions, suggesting that they stem from unilateral geopolitical ambitions and violate the sovereignty of sovereign nations.

In his remarks, he called upon the international community to voice their serious concern and protest against U.S. actions, which he characterized as “hooliganism” that jeopardizes regional peace and stability. He urged an immediate halt to the indiscriminate use of force by the United States. Notably, Iran maintains one of the few friendly relationships with North Korea, highlighting the geopolitical complexities of the situation.

In conclusion, North Korea’s denunciation of U.S. military actions in Yemen underscores significant concerns about international law and sovereignty. The death toll from the recent U.S. operation has drawn criticism, elevating tensions in the region. Ambassador Ma’s remarks highlight calls for global scrutiny and a cessation of what he terms U.S. “hooliganism,” reflecting broader geopolitical dynamics involving key players in the region.
